Friday Night Point Score

Corrimal Swim Club’s main purpose is to promote and advance swimming within the area, not just to provide a facility for elite swimmers. Our very successful Friday point score nights are a great opportunity for swimmers of all ages to race in a non-competitive atmosphere. All races are based on the swimmer’s individual best times. Not only do the kids have fun but it is also an opportunity for parents to socialise in a relaxed environment and enjoy dinner. Entry to the Club House on Friday Nights is via the rear car park.

Friday Night Point Score - 6pm start.

Please arrive by 5.45pm for a 6pm start. Once Wollongong City Council commence their peak season hours, our start will be 7:00 pm (refer to Club Calendar).

• Point score entries need to be completed ONLINE via Swim Central

It is the same process as entering a carnival, so if you follow these steps you should be good to go,
1. Make sure you unlock yourself first
2. Click on your swimmer
3. Click on events icon
3. Select the month from drop down menu and hover over the date and click on point score 1,2 OR 3
4. Select events and add to cart
5. Remember you only ever need to enter point score 3 (time trial) if you are after a time and it's not that stoke that week.
6. It will ask for your credit card details even though it wont charge it, it should come up with $0.00 and will still ask you to enter your details this a swim central issue we can't get around (unless of course you've entered point score 3 then it is a $5 fee per swim).

Swimmers are encouraged to enter both No1 & No 2 Point Score

POINT SCORE FEES are included in the total fee when registering and paying membership fees
New members are welcome to participate in up to two Friday Night Point Scores before deciding if that’s what you are looking for before having to Register with Corrimal Swim Club for the season (membership is for twelve months). Come along, join in and get racing! It’s so much fun! Look at our Point Score Program for the next night that suits you.
Three separate point scores operate each Point Score night. Swimmers are allowed a maximum of three swims per night in Point Scores 1 & 2 see below for Point Score 3 details. Don’t forget that to be eligible to compete in Friday night point score you must be a financial member of Corrimal Swim Club.

Personal Best Times ***
After a new swimmer has recorded a time - that time becomes their personal best time and must be used the following week.
Existing members - personal best times from the previous season carry over into the new season of point score.

No 1 Point Score
You are allowed a maximum of two swims in the No 1 Point Score each Friday night. Freestyle is swum each week followed by an off stroke such as backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly in the following distances - 12.5m ; 25m ; 37.5m ; either 50m and 100m. For the swimmers requiring assistance we also have 12.5m kick board. Trophies are awarded to both male and female swimmers regardless of the distance swum.
No 1 Point Score Age Groups:
(6 years & under) (7/8 years) (9/10 years) (11/12 years) (13/14 years) (15 years & over)

No 2 Point Score
You are allowed one swim in the No 2 Point Score each Friday night. The No 2 point score is based on 200m and 400m distances. No age groups operate in this point score; points are awarded individually. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd combined male or female.

Additional Point Score Information
• For point score purposes, the age of the swimmer is based on their age as at the first night of point score i.e. 10 years of age at 22nd October 2019
• All point score swims are based on a scratch start, i.e. off the hooter. While there is no handicapping, the club uses the previous best times of all swimmers to correctly seed swimmers into the appropriate heat and lane.
• Points are awarded for improvement in time in all events and distances swim as well as for starting and finishing a race.

Points will not be awarded if a swimmer is absent except under the following circumstances:
• The swimmer is representing the club at a higher level of competition eg Area, Country, SNSW, State or National Championships.
• An immediate member of the swimmers family, who is a club member, has to attend the swim meet.

To avoid loss of points, the swimmer will receive equal best time points plus start and finish points. The non-attending swimmer will receive start and finish points only. The swimmer must notify the point score co-ordinator in writing within two weeks of their absence.

Point Score 3 (in effect time trials)...
Point Score 3 allows swimmers the flexibility to swim an event outside the advertised Point Score programme where a Championship qualifying time is required. Club members entering Point Score 3 will not accumulate Club Championship points. Limited places will be available to swimmers from other clubs subject to time line restrictions. ALL swimmers will pay a $5 per event entry fee for point score 3 in addition to standard CORRIMAL SWIM CLUB member Point Score 1 & 2 fees. This way, Corrimal members will be encouraged to remain within the point score 1 & 2 programmes except where qualifying times are required. Point Score 3 events may be amalgamated with Point Score 1 & 2 events to meet the time line.

Special Events ...

Handicap Race – handicap start
This freestyle event is open to all club members and is swum over 50 metres. You first nominate a time with the point score co-ordinator, which you intend to swim during the event. The time must be to the second for example 50 metres free 34 seconds. We cannot accept 34.5 seconds. To progress through the different heats you must be one of the first three swimmers to touch within 2 seconds of their time (either way) in each heat. The overall winner is the swimmer who touches first without breaking that time.

Brace Relay – handicap start
Like the handicap race, this is a freestyle event but is swum over 100 metres with two swimmers completing a 50 metre leg each. Both must swim within 4 seconds of their joint nominated time. To progress through the different heats you must be one of the first three swimmers to touch within their nominated time in each heat. The overall winners are the swimmers who touch first without breaking that time.

Club Championships
To be eligible to swim in the Club Championships you must be a financial member of Corrimal Swim Club and you must have swum at least six point score nights (not including Country or State representative swims) prior to the closing date of entries to the championships; ie you must have attended at least six Friday nights.
Special entry forms must be lodged with the point score co-ordinator to compete in the Club Championships. Please refer to the point score program for entry details.
Points are allocated as follows:
• 1st place = 3 points
• 2nd place = 2 points
• 3rd place = 1 point

Trophies or vouchers are awarded to place getters in the following age groups:
• Boys under 6 years & Girls under 6 years
• Boys 7 & 8 years & Girls 7 & 8 years
• Boys 9 & 10 years & Girls 9 & 10 years
• Boys 11 & 12 years & Girls 11 & 12 years
• Boys 13 & 14 years & Girls 13 & 14 years
• Boys 15 & over & Girls 15 & over

Timekeeping
We are always in need of timekeepers on Friday nights. Please remember we will not commence proceedings until we have the necessary number of timekeepers.
Handy hints for timekeepers:
• Watch the starter carefully
• Use your forefinger rather than your thumb to activate the stopwatch
• Start the stopwatch at the flash rather than the sound
• Always check that the stopwatch is operating correctly. Do this a number of times especially in longer events
• If there is a problem, notify the chief timekeeper
• When the swimmer is close to the finish line, say (five metres away) stand directly above the wall and look straight down. Stop the watch when any part of the swimmer’s body touches the wall.
